Each month of 2017 I will choose a theme that focuses on one aspect of your rich and gorgeous life. Each week for 4 weeks I will dig into the essence of this theme on my blog, offering insights, musings, tips, and action steps that will guide you in enhancing this one life area. The themes are based on the wisdom of Feng Shui, a beautiful art and science that I have been working with for almost 15 years. If you want to learn a little bit more about what Feng Shui is all about, read more about it on my website by clicking here.
You see, it can be overwhelming to look at a big calendar of 12 months and carve out a plan to make your life richer, more full of love, fulfillment, and joy. I invite you to settle in and take a tour with me. Welcome a slower pace. The quick fix is a farce. Let’s dig deep, take our time, and intentionally turn over the rocks in all the corners of our lives so we can live our own authentic, wholistic masterpieces. As Mary Oliver asks in her poem, The Summer Day: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
We’ll explore this each week, dipping into my special bag of magic that includes intrinsic tools like mindset work, journaling prompts, and affirmations. We’ll also incorporate extrinsic tools like essential oils, mindful design ideas, and strategies for living big out in the world. Because there’s an intimate connection between our inner world and our outer world. Get ready to play in both places with inquisitiveness, awareness, curiosity, and creativity!
The theme that we’ll be working with in January, and suitingly so, is Knowledge and Self-Cultivation. This month is all about turning inward. I talked about this as the natural state of being this time of year in my Winter Solstice Webinar (if you missed it, you can watch it here). January is the perfect time to reacquaint yourself with yourself! The energy of the New Year has us asking, “what do I really want / what could be better in my life?” To answer these questions you must take the time to be still and listen to the quiet voices that so often get drowned out by the louder voice of your ego. Your Spirit speaks in subtle ways, like feelings in your gut, visions in your dreams, or inspirational revelations in the shower. Your ego is like a toddler on a sugar high, demanding your attention and always on. This month is about dropping in to hang out with your Spirit and putting that ego in a restorative time-out.
So to get started in this month of January: Knowledge & Self-Cultivation I offer you a few actions to take and questions to ponder. Give yourself the gift of slowing down and turning inward. Create a sacred space. Devote time to developing your spiritual listening muscle. Give yourself the gift of stillness.
- Go to a mirror and gaze into your own eyes. Look deeply and grin at your Spirit that is shining out from within. Notice when you start to get uncomfortable, then soften your eyes and stay for a few more seconds. You are so much more than your physical body. That ego voice likes to talk about your body, your hair, your skin, your teeth. Smile at your Spirit — she’s in there and she’s beautiful! Then click on this link and dance it out to this amazing song.
- Your relationship with yourself is the most important relationship you have. The pace of our lives is so fast now that we’re missing the sacred time required to nurture this relationship. Grab your journal and take a seat in your most comfortable chair. Take a moment to greet and reconnect with yourself: “Hi, dear friend. How are you? What’s weighing on your heart today? What do you want to do today–not have to do–want to do? If you had one wish for this day, this week, this month, this year…what would it be?”
- For the rest of this week, practice tuning in to your desires. We are busy and we have a lot of people relying on us. But we need to tend to ourselves in order to care for others in our lives. Happiness, health, prosperity–it all starts within us. Before committing to doing something for someone else this week, check in with your Spirit and ask if it’s going to leave you feeling more abundant, or more depleted. Make the choice that’s going to leave you feeling more abundant!
Stay tuned for next week’s blog where we’ll dip more into Knowledge & Self-Cultivation. It’s important work to do this month.
